Chicago Bears Injury News: Trapilo, Edwards Go on IR; Braxton Jones Activated

Some notable Chicago Bears injury news and notes on a Tuesday.

Straight from the team:

Linebacker T.J. Edwards has been placed on injured reserve. Edwards was limited to a dozen snaps in the Chicago’s win against the Packers on Saturday before going down with what Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson said was a fractured fibula. It has been an injury plagued year for the 29-year-old linebacker, who missed time earlier in the season with a hamstring issue. D’Marco Jackson figures to take Edwards’ place in the starting lineup.

In more Bears injury news, offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo is joining Edwards on injured reserve. Trapilo went down with a ruptured patellar tendon late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s victory against Green Bay. The rookie hobbled off the field under his own power, which saved the Bears from losing a timeout. Trapilo played in 14 regular-season games and made six starts at left tackle. He appeared to be staking his claim to the starting job in 2026, but that is very much in doubt based on the severity of the injury. Hopefully, he can have a full recovery and be a part of the mix whenever he is healthy.

    TUESDAY’S BEARS NOTES

How about some good Bears injury news? Offensive lineman Braxton Jones has been activated from injured reserve. Jones was designated for return from IR last week and was a full participant in each of the three practice sessions that came before Chicago’s game against Green Bay. The Southern Utah University product had three years of starting experience at left tackle. For what it’s worth, Jones began the 2025 season as Chicago’s starting left tackle. Additionally, the Bears signed Jalen Reeves-Maybin to the active roster. Reeves-Maybin is in hi ssecond stint with the team. During the regular season, he played in three games and appeared on 50 special teams snaps. Last week, the special teams ace was flexed from the practice squad and onto the game day roster. In his time on the field, Reeves-Maybin was in on eight defensive snaps in addition to the 20 special teams snaps. Reeves-Maybin figures to continue in his role as a top special teams contributor and could chip in as a depth linebacker.

Filling the practice squad vacancy opened up by the Bears injury news above is lineback Nephi Sewell. The older brother of Bears linebacker Noah Sewell, who is also on injured reserve, Nephi has 30 career games under his belt from his time with the New Orleans Saints from 2022-25. This means he has some experience in the scheme run by Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen. The 27-year-old linebacker was a first-team All-Pac-12 player at Utah in 2021.
