Wearing a black, form-fitting Christian Siriano gown with metallic knot detail down the front and at the wrists, Melissa McCarthy looked stunning at the Golden Globes on Jan. 11.
"Love her so much WOW does she look amazing!!" the designer captioned an Instagram photo of the Bridesmaids star.
However, while her dress was gorgeous, and she looked lovely in her slicked-back ponytail and natural makeup, it was another accessory that really defined her look: confidence.
Unlike some, McCarthy's 100-lb weight loss didn't happen quickly; it took several years. In fact, it happened so gradually that many didn't even realize she was getting slimmer and slimmer until she'd lost a significant amount of weight.
McCarthy has previously admitted that her weight has occupied a significant amount of her mind. In 2011, she told People that she had tried an extreme all-liquid diet while she'd been on Gilmore Girls.
“I’d never do that again,” she said. “I felt starved and crazy half the time.”
Four years later, she told CBS Mornings that she'd finally stopped feeling so anxious about her weight, "and it may be the best thing I've ever done," she admitted.
"I stopped overanalyzing, overthinking, overdoing anything," she continued. "I kind of went back to when I was pregnant, and I just stopped constantly being worried about it. And I think there's something to kind of loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that bizarrely has worked.
In 2018, she appeared on The Breakfast Club and discussed losing approximately 80 pounds over five years. She explained why she decided not to get it surgically removed or use a quicker route.
"I think everybody's always kind of working on something, and I was like, if I can destress and just do it slower and stop constantly trying to be on something, and then it actually worked better," she said. "Instead of being, like, 'I'm gonna not do this and do this and only drink this."

And then there's also the constant support of her husband, Ben Falcone. She's described him as someone who has always made her feel good about who she is, regardless of her weight.
"Because he's so constantly loving and kind," she told People in 2023. "And funny and the weirdest human I know, to be honest. And somewhere in my 30s, I was like 'I'm okay with who I am.' And if someone wasn't thrilled with that, that's okay too."
