A 22-year-old Denver driver died after crashing over the edge of an Adams County road on Sunday and rolling into the South Platte River, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Adams County Fire Rescue crews responded to the rollover crash near E. 58th Avenue and York Street, near Commerce City, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, agency officials said on social media. A video posted by the department showed a red Honda CRV in the river with its wheels in the air.
Paramedics took the driver to the hospital, where he later died, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.
He was the only person in the car at the time of the crash and will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, state patrol officials said.
The 22-year-old man was driving east on E. 58th Avenue when he crossed into the westbound lanes and went over the left side of the road, down the side of an embankment, state patrol officials said in the release. The car then rolled down the hill, coming to a rest on its roof in the river.
