World Aquatics has released the full schedule and location list for the 2026 Water Polo World Cup and its qualification tournaments. It has also listed the U18 and U16 World Championships locations.
World Cup
Water Polo’s biggest event of 2026, the World Cup final, will take place in Sydney, Australia. The Sydney Olympic Park Venue, host of aquatics events for the 2000 Olympics, will welcome elite athletes back into its doors from July 20-25 this summer.
The top eight men’s and women’s teams from the Division I and Division II tournaments will partake in the final. Last year, Greece made headlines for winning its first ever Women’s World Cup, and they’ll be in the hunt for number two.
Spain is the team to beat on the men’s side. It is the 2x-defending World Cup Champion country as well as the reigning World Champion.
The top three teams in each gender at this World Cup earn automatic spots to the 2027 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest.
The World Cup qualifying tournaments – Division I and II – are located as listed below:

Athletes in the U18 division will take to the Iberian countries for their World Championships tournaments. The girl’s tournament is set to take place in Puerto de la Cruz in Spain’s Tenerife island on August 16-23. The Spanish girls will have a homefield advantage as they attempt to defend their crown. The boys, meanwhile, will go for gold in Portugal’s inland city of Rio Maior from June 27-July 24. Hungary is the team to beat, as it won the last edition of the biennial tournament.
Croatia’s capital city, Zagreb, will welcome top U16 athletes for their World Championships. Spain will look to defend its title across both genders. The girls take center stage July 25-31, and shortly after, the boys play August 3-9th.
