The 83rd Annual Golden Globes awarded some of the 2025's biggest hit movies and series, with some actors looking back at their career-hitting projects. Minnie Driver spilled the truth on who has been her favorite co-star, with the answer being her ex and Good Will Hunting star.
Speaking with E! Live from the Red Carpet, Driver was asked who her all-time favorite collaborator was. Thinking back to her extensive filmography, she had one set-in-stone response: Matt Damon.
"I've got to say Matt and Ben [Affleck] were pretty fun when they were just getting going, raring to go, just kids," said the Oscar nominee.
The three actors starred in the 1997 movie that Affleck and Damon wrote. It follows a janitor, Will Hunting (Damon), who is discovered to be a mathematical genius by an MIT professor. It was a box office success, having made $225 million against its $10 million budget.
Good Will Hunting led it to be nominated in nine categories at the 70th Academy Awards, with Damon and Matt winning an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Driver said she was "very lucky" and "very fortunate" to have worked with both actors on the film. She played the role of Skylar, a wealthy British student at Harvard, and became Will's love interest.
In real life, Driver and Damon began dating while working on the film and became one of the most talked-about couples of the 90s. Damon was a rising star and writer, while Driver was an established actor.
Their breakup was received with controversy in 1998 when Damon appeared in a TV interview claiming he was single and didn't have a girlfriend. Driver found their breakup painful, seeing as Damon hadn't told her of his intentions to split before the interview.
In 2024 on The Jennifer Hudson Show, she recounted how she and Damon had "recently broken up… He had a new girlfriend. I was totally heartbroken."
She also adds how her reaction at the Oscars was a topic of conversation, as both she and Damon were nominated for their roles. Having recently split, the camera panned to show Damon with his new girlfriend at the time.
Twenty-eight years later, Driver has put it behind her and speaks fondly of her Good Will Hunting co-star.
