Trinidad Chambliss planning to sue NCAA for 2026 eligibility

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss will be taking his pursuit to play in 2026 to court, as the Ole Miss standout plans to file suit against the NCAA to appeal for a sixth year of eligibility.

Chambliss’ lawyer, Tom Mars, told ESPN that he and a noted Mississippi trial lawyer William Liston plan to file suit against the NCAA in state court this week for a preliminary injunction – with the aim of allowing Chambliss to continue playing with the Rebels heading into next season.

The suit comes on the heels of the NCAA denying a waiver Friday to allow Chambliss to not count the player’s 2022 season at Ferris State toward his eligibility – saying that Chambliss’ medical issues were not sufficient to qualify. Chambliss claims that he was dealing with persistent respiratory issues during his sophomore season at Division II Ferris State.

Chambliss transferred to Ole Miss for the 2025 season and was originally slotted as a reserve behind starter Austin Simmons. But an injury to Simmons vaulted Chambliss into the starting role – one he thrived in throughout the Rebels’ run to their first College Football Playoff berth.

Chambliss passed for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns and led Ole Miss past Tulane and Georgia into the CFP semifinals, where the Rebels lost to Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.
