Former Pakistan cricketer Saeed Ajmal has taken a dig at the International Cricket Council (ICC) for failing to enforce its decisions on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His remarks come at a time when former BCCI secretary Jay Shah is at the helm of affairs in the global body. Ajman claimed that the ICC should shut down its operations if it cannot take unbiased and principled decisions in the overall interest of world cricket.
Ajmal claims ICC is unnecessary
According to news agency PTI, Ajmal claimed that the ICC was unnecessary if it could not enforce its decisions on the BCCI and keep its influence under check. He made the remarks to media persons while attending an event. The former Pakistan spinner claimed that all the Test playing nations shared a similar sentiment but wouldn’t go public about their stance. Ajmal further claimed that there was no logic behind India refusing to travel to Pakistan and that the global body couldn’t do anything about it as it was dominated by Indians at present.
“If the ICC can’t enforce its decisions on the Indian board then its very existence is unnecessary. There is no logical reason for India not to play in Pakistan but the ICC is helpless because it is dominated by Indians now,” Ajmal claimed.
India have categorically refused to travel to Pakistan for any ICC event due to tensions between the two countries. The Men in Blue played their Champions Trophy 2025 matches at a neutral venue in Dubai last year while they also refused to collect the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from PCB and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi. As a tit for tat measure, Pakistan refused to travel to India for the Women’s World Cup in 2025. Additionally, the country will play all their T20 World Cup 2026 matches in Sri Lanka.
