The “Hot Dog Hop” bar crawl will come to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 24, as one of 70 stops on the nationwide college campus tour.
Participants will be able to visit some of the city’s most popular spots, all while dressed in hot dog costumes. Participating venues include The Standard, Rhythm & Brews, Houndstooth, Rounders, Two Dimes, The Booth and additional locations to be announced.
The event has already sparked excitement from students looking for an engaging springtime event.
“I’m excited to dress up as a hot dog and just have fun with my friends,” said Tom Waterland, a junior accounting and finance major. “It’s not something you see a lot, it’s definitely gonna be a fun day.”
Every ticket will include a hot dog costume to keep, entry into all participating bars, discounted drinks and different chances through the night to win prizes.
Aidan Tighe, cofounder of the event, said the idea behind the Hot Dog Hop was to create something that leaned fully into the college experience.
“We’ve run a lot of bar crawls, but we wanted to do something very different,” Tighe said. “This one is special. You dress up in a costume and have fun in college, and once you graduate, you’ll probably never do anything like this again. We really wanted to make it a super memorable event for students.”
The event will also feature interactive challenges and pop up surprises, including hot dogs, which will be served along the route.
“The challenges are just fun ways for people to step out of their comfort zone,” Tighe said. “Things like swapping costumes with a stranger or getting people to sign your hot dog suit.”
Participants who complete their challenge cards will also have the chance to earn exclusive merchandise from Fireball Whiskey, the event’s presenting sponsor.
The “Hot Dog Hop” is new under the same organizers as the “Banana Bar Crawl,” which was hosted in Tuscaloosa on Sept. 20.
“I’m most excited about being on the strip surrounded by everyone with costumes on,” said Ali Zimmerman, a junior majoring in kinesiology. “I remember the weekend of the banana bar crawl looking so fun with all of the costumes.”
Hot dog suits can be picked up at Houndstooth on Jan. 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Jan. 24 from noon to 3 p.m.
At the time of publication Tier 2 tickets are available for $29.99 and are open to those 21 and older. Tickets can be purchased on LineLeap.
