Wedding dresses, venues, decorations and cake samples lined the newly renovated Embassy Suites in downtown Tuscaloosa on Saturday as Southern Event Productions hosted The Modern Bridal Expo. The event featured 45 vendors offering their services and advice on the latest trends in bridal fashion and inspiration to make their weddings special.
The expo allowed vendors to meet and positively engage with individuals in need of their services. Jodie Wilson, executive planner and CEO of Wilson-Weddings, said that bridal shows help brides build relationships with vendors before they book.
“That way, they feel a lot more comfortable, and it bridges the gap and makes that connection,” Wilson said.
With so many diverse vendors on display at the expo, brides were able to discover new possibilities for their weddings.
“It’s nice that they can come here and just relax and have a good time,” said Heather McHenry, Embassy Suites’ senior sales manager. “You’ve got so many different personalities and so many different plannings, so we love seeing them come in and make these spaces come to life.”
The event was characterized by its elegant, upscale style, including a performing violinist, giveaways of luxury prizes and a display of high-class fashion.
“The fashion is couture, and there are a lot of one-of-a-kind dresses,” said Angela Snyder, owner of Southern Event Productions. “The brides get to experience almost like a wedding reception. They walk in, get a glass of champagne and there’s music playing.”
Jennifer Casselman, owner of Tuscaloosa-based travel agency Joyous Adventures, expressed her appreciation for the expo taking place in the city.
“There has not been a bridal show in years, really, since COVID. We did several before, but since we haven’t really had one,” Casselman said. “I feel very privileged to be here, and to have exposure and meet everyone.”
Thanks to its warm reception from both vendors and brides, the expo has a bright future in Tuscaloosa. With its possible return, more future brides and wedding-goers can join in on the experience.
“The goal for me is that this can be an annual event in Tuscaloosa. I don’t think it should be a one-off,” Snyder said. “I think this is something everybody would start looking forward to.”
