Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert called out "people playing victim" just days before her husband Timothy Busfield's arrest warrant for alleged child sex abuse.
On Monday, Jan. 5, Gilbert took to Instagram with a quote, writing, "You seem to have a mistaken discomfort for injustice." She included the hashtags #fragility, #youknowwhyouare, and #thatsrightimlookingatyou in the update.

In the comments, Gilbert further explained, “Basically this comment about playing the victim and blaming others. It’s about not taking accountability for your own situation. It’s about being a big whiny baby. I saw this quote and it struck me.”
The former child actress who played Laura Ingalls Wilder added, “I have a particularly hard time with people who play the victim. Own your s--t. Step up. It’s all pretty general. Has nothing to do with politics but everything to do with privilege, attitude and weakness.”
Although Gilbert didn't get into specifics about who the message was for, the timing of her post was curious in hindsight of Busfield's arrest warrant. The Albuquerque Police Department issued the warrant on Friday, Jan. 9, for his alleged actions involving twin 11-year-old sibling actors, whom he met on the set of the Fox series The Cleaning Lady. One of the victims alleged that incidents began when he was just 7.
Albuquerque officer Marvin Kirk Brown wrote in the arrest warrant, per People, “In my training and experience, pedophiles often infiltrate families under a trusted role, like Timothy, who, as a producer, exploited the hectic film sets to tickle and touch SL on his penis and buttocks, masking it as play.”
Brown continued, “He would invite the family to off-set gatherings, with his wife buying Christmas gifts to foster closeness, making SL feel special and dependent— classic grooming to erode boundaries, isolate the victim, and silence suspicions by blending abuse into normalcy. This dual tactic, charming parents while secretly violating the child, builds a web of complicity that is hard to unravel, delaying detection, as families trust the abuser’s facade.”
On Saturday, Jan. 10, Gilbert seemingly deactivated her Instagram account after users flooded her comments. Those who attempt to visit her grid are met with the message, “Profile isn’t available. The link may be broken, or the profile may have been removed.”
Neither Busfield nor Gilbert has issued a statement in the wake of his arrest warrant. The LHOPT actress, 61, and the West Wing star, 68, have been married since 2013.
