The Boilermaker men powered to 16 event wins on the day as Purdue took care of business at home against the Salukis of Southern Illinois in home water, winning 207-103 and growing their dual meet record to 4-1 on the season.

    Purdue kick-started their scoring column with a meet-opening win in the 400 medley relay. Dylan Burau (47.69), Max Blume (53.79), Evan Mackesy (47.19), and Jānis Dzirkalis (43.07) combined for the victory in 3:11.74.

    The 500 free was a very tightly contested race, with the top five all separated by under a second. Purdue freshman Jonny Hines led the field and the 1-2-3 sweep for Purdue in 4:29.80. Freshman Matt Rose finished just behind in 4:29.94, and junior Alexander Cole completed the event sweep in 4:30.30.

    Hines also earned the 1650 free win later in the meet, clocking 15:41.06, just over three seconds ahead of Tomas Peciar of Southern Illinois in 15:44.54.

    Mackesy, a sophomore, dominated the 200 IM, finishing over two seconds ahead of the field, clocking a winning time of 1:47.76. Southern Illinois’ Benedek Andor finished 2nd in 1:50.17. Mackesy repeated his dominant efforts in the 400 IM, clocking 3:52.48, more than five seconds better than the field.

    Purdue junior Giorgio Mango took the 200 breaststroke in the only sub-2:00 performance of the day in 1:58.10, over two seconds ahead of Southern Illinois’ Maddax Thompson in 2:00.26.

    Blake Rowe, the Boilermaker sophomore, and redshirt junior Dylan Burau led the way for the Purdue in the 200 back; Rowe touched 1st in 1:43.19, just over two seconds behind was Burau in 1:45.30.

    Dzirkalis notched the 50 freestyle in 19.75, just ahead of junior teammate Nathaniel Thomas in 19.98, the only two sub-20-second performances; Dzirkalis also turned in the fastest 100 free performance in 44.10, over a second faster than the field.

    Alexander Cole battled for the victory in the 200 free, touching the wall first in 1:37.65. Alex Cimera of Southern Illinois finished just under a half second behind in 1:38.11.

    Freshman Biko Hooper-Haviland led another 1-2 finish in the 200 fly for Purdue, storming to the win in 1:46.84. Purdue sophomore Charles Lee finished 2nd in 1:48.48, nearly a second and a half ahead of Southern Illinois’ Carter Ruthven, who touched 3rd in 1:49.83.

    Purdue continued to overpower the Salukis, earning another win in the 100 breast by way of freshman Jonah Lee. Lee flew out of the gates and held on to win in 54.12. Blume was 2nd for the Boilermakers in 54.84.

    Rowe’s final 50 overwhelmed the field in the 100 back; Rowe powered home in 24.33, the fastest split of the field to top his teammate, Burau (47.98) in 47.72 to pick up the event win.

    Purdue also found plenty of success on the boards; junior Maxwell Miller turned in a 421.35 point performance on 1-meter to lead the Boilermakers, who finished with the top six scorers in the event.

    On the 3-meter, sophomore Tyler Willis led all scorers, earning the event win for Purdue in 426.90; fellow sophomore Zachary Welsch finished runner-up for Purdue in 380.18.

    Purdue closed the meet on a high note, earning one final win of the meet in the 200 free relay. Dzirkalis (20.15), Andy Kelly (19.89), Rowe (19.85), and Cole (20.20) closed out the Boilermakers’ winning efforts in 1:20.09.

    Southern Illinois’ Carter Ruthven earned the Salukis lone event win on the day, winning the 100 fly in 48.12, narrowly finishing ahead of a pair of Boilermakers, who tied for 2nd; Cooper Callahan and Hooper-Haviland each touched in 48.22.
