The last batch of fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) left Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood aboard buses headed to eastern Syria.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Aleppo confirmed that the final group departed at around 2:30 a.m., Syria time.
The correspondent added that the convoys reached Deir Hafir (eastern Aleppo countryside) at 3 a.m. on Sunday, 11 January, and that the injured were transferred to SDF military hospitals in al-Raqqa and al-Hasakah.
The correspondent noted that Aleppo continues to witness drone activity across the city.
Security situation stabilizing
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib said the security situation in the governorate is gradually returning to stability in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods (northern Aleppo city).
In a statement published today, he said this marks the “closing of the page of anxiety,” and that Aleppo is “safe and strong through its people’s unity, and fortified by their will.”
He added that “the relevant authorities continue their field work without interruption to consolidate security and ensure the return of normal life in all neighborhoods.”
Abdi announces a ceasefire understanding
SDF commander Mazloum Abdi, for his part, announced that an understanding had been reached on a ceasefire with the Syrian government.
Abdi said the agreement, brokered by international parties he did not name, stipulated “an end to attacks and violations against our people in Aleppo.”
According to Abdi, the understanding also included securing the evacuation of the dead and wounded, stranded civilians, and fighters from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods to northeastern Syria.
He called on the mediators to uphold their commitments to stop violations and to work toward the safe return of the displaced to their homes.
At least 155,000 people were displaced from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh during the operations, according to estimates by the Aleppo Governorate.
The governorate also said that six civilians were killed and more than 70 others wounded by SDF fire, while the SDF announced the killing of eight civilians, saying they were killed by government forces.
