A man from Chicago has been charged in the killings of an Ohio dentist and his wife, authorities announced.
Michael David McKee, a 39-year-old resident of Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, was charged Saturday with killing married couple Spencer and Monique Tepe in late December. McKee was Monique Tepe’s ex-husband, NBC N
The couple was found dead after several of their friends and co-workers placed calls to authorities after growing concerned when Spencer did not show up for work and Monique would not answer her phone.
Authorities received at least four calls concerning the Tepes starting around 9 a.m. on Dec. 30, police said. The first call came from the owner of Spencer’s dental practice, who told the operator that he is never late to work and always checks in before missing a day.
An hour later, an unidentified man called 911 from outside the couple’s home and said he could hear children inside but could not get in. Another friend of Spender’s reported to authorities they saw a body inside the house before breaking down into sobs.
“There’s blood. He’s laying next to his bed, off of his bed, and there’s blood. I can’t get closer to see more than that,” he said, according to 911 logs.
Three 9-millimeter casings were found inside the home, according to the police report.
Video showing a person of interest was released by police on January 5. A person could be seen walking in an alley near the couple’s home in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus.
Their children, 1 and 4, were found physically unharmed in the home in a separate room from their parent’s bodies after the shooting.
The Tepes were a month away from celebrating their five years of marriage when they were killed inside the house where their ceremony took place, their family said.
