Matt Prokop, a former child actor known for appearing in Disney Channel films, has been arrested in Texas in connect with an ongoing criminal case, according to multiple reports.
Prokop was arrested in Victoria, Texas, after allegedly violating the bond conditions of charges filed against him in 2024, at which time the High School Musical star had been arrested for aggravated assault of a family member and resisting arrest.
The second arrest came on Dec. 24, 2025 for charges that include not only resisting evading and resisting arrest for violating bond conditions, but for an additional charge of possession or promotion of child pornography. According to Crossroads Today, the warrant was signed on Dec. 31.
Despite the shocking new charges, this is not Prokop's first run-in with the law. In 2014, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland filed a restraining order against Prokop, her then-boyfriend of four years. In court documents, Hyland stated that he was both verbally and physically abusive toward her.
In court documents, Hyland recounted one incident in which the Disney star choked her. "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."
Hyland stated that when she ended the relationship, Prokop "relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats."
The suggestion for Hyland to request the restraining order came from an official at the rehab facility where Prokop sought treatment at the time. A Los Angeles judge granted a temporary restraining order, and Prokop was legally required to say 100 yards away from both Hyland and her dog.
In 2024, Hyland opened up about her experience with domestic violence.
"For thousands of years now, we didn’t talk about it. The community hasn’t shared enough, I believe,” she told Variety. "And I feel that if we talk about it more, more women — and men and just human beings in general in abusive relationships — will feel more comfortable to be able to talk about it with their loved ones instead of letting their abuser isolate them from everyone, which is the first thing that they do, so that you don’t have that community. So we have to keep talking about it. It’s really important to be able to help those in need."
