Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam said the ministry continues to manage the country’s water situation efficiently, monitoring water flows around the clock to meet the needs of all users while taking into account the capacity of the national water network.
The comments were made during a regular meeting of the Permanent Committee for the Regulation of Nile River Revenues, chaired by the minister and attended by senior ministry officials and representatives of the National Water Research Center.
The meeting reviewed the current status of Nile inflows and the river’s hydrological conditions, assessed the volumes of water reaching Lake Nasser, and discussed the operational procedures of the High Aswan Dam.
It also examined measures for managing the water system during the winter season and the current period of heavy rainfall and flash floods.
Sewilam emphasized that all ministry departments are operating around the clock to ensure the smooth functioning of irrigation and drainage services nationwide. He said ongoing work includes clearing and dredging canals and drains across governorates as needed, ensuring the readiness of waterways, embankments, pumping stations, and emergency units to handle any situations, and maintaining appropriate water levels at the intakes of drinking water and power generation plants.
He added that the ministry is maintaining a high level of preparedness to respond effectively to flash floods and heavy rainfall, in coordination with all relevant state authorities.
