Stranger Thingsstar Millie Bobby Brown has shared her emotional reaction to seeing one pivotal series finale scene for the very first time on Instagram.
SPOILER—This post includes spoilers from the Stranger Thingsseries finale.
The Stranger Things finale was emotional for a host of reasons, although one of the most significant was the conclusion for Brown's character, Eleven/Jane. The Duffer Brotherselected to keep her ending open to interpretation, although she is either dead or she is far away, unable to ever reconnect with her friends or family.
Both options are sad in different ways, but the truly heartbreaking moment comes when Mike Wheeler realizes what she is about to do and begins screaming her name while being held back by soldiers. Even after Eleven gets the chance to say goodbye by pulling Mike into her mind, Mike still screams for her.
The scene also cuts to several other characters, including El's close friends like Will, Max and Dustin, as well as her adoptive father Jim Hopper, looking on in horror and/or screaming for her. In the end, El is swept away as the Upside Down is destroyed—either in an illusion or in reality, the latter of which would mean her death.
Taking to Instagram to share what her own reaction was, Brown posted a clip in which she has just finished watching the scene for the first time and is audibly and visibly crying.
View this post on InstagramIn addition to a caption that reads, "watching THAT scene for the first time," Brown can be heard in the video saying, "Thank you for all the years. I appreciate it." However, after a few more sniffles, she adds, "This d—n show."
Brown has spoken at length before about how much Eleven means to her as a character and what an impact Stranger Things has had on her life, both of which make plenty of sense given that the 21-year-old star joined the show at just 11 years old.
The scene is also a painful one no matter which interpretation one has for El's ending; although, it's unlikely Brown will ever reveal what she believes, as it is rumored to be only Brown and the Duffers who know the actual answer to whether Eleven lived.
