ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Red Alert is up through Friday evening for strong to damaging wind gusts. Winds gusting 55-65 mph will slowly ease as the evening goes on, but we’ve been seeing some reports of damage and power outages. The strongest gusts are expected in Monroe, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming Counties, where high wind warnings are posted. Wind Advisories are in effect for the rest of the region.
The cold front responsible for the strong winds will drop our temperatures from near 60 degrees on Friday, back into the 30s for much of Saturday. We’ll likely push into the 40s late Saturday, but most of the day will be spent in the 30s. We’ll be mostly cloudy but dry until mid afternoon, when some rain will begin to move in from south to north. We’ll surge into the 40s late in the evening, but the daylight hours will be spent in the 30s.
Sunday will turn colder and windy once again, with some gusts near 40mph. As temperatures fall, lake effect snow showers will begin to pick up, especially by afternoon and evening. Accumulations should stay below a coating to an inch for most of the area.
Monday and Tuesday will be fairly quiet and seasonable next week, but another system moving in on Wednesday will begin to change that. Rain changes over to snow on Wednesday, then temperatures tumble back into the 20s for highs and teens for lows by Thursday and Friday.
