Legendary Choreographer Shares Behind-The-Scenes Secrets From Ghost and Coyote Ugly

Legendary Hollywood choreographer Stacy Walker has worked on tons of major projects, and on the Jan. 6 episode of The Dammit Danii Podcast, she shared some behind-the-scenes secrets from the sets of Michael Jackson's Ghost movie, 2000 cult classic film Coyote Ugly, and Courtney Love's "Celebrity Skin" video. Scroll down to see the tea!

The famous choreographer revealed that dancing for the Ghost film as one of the ghosts was her "first job in L.A.," and the first time she got to meet Jackson. She went on to work with him twice more, including on his final world tour, and she got all three gigs without ever auditioning.

"See, if you audition for something and they pick you and it doesn't go well, it's their fault, right? I auditioned, you picked me," she said. "But if they just say, 'Hey, will you do this?' and then you suck... I felt more pressure that way, but I also appreciated it so much. It's almost that imposter syndrome, where you don't have that confidence to say, 'I earned this,' even though you earned it in a different way."

Walker's first gig with Jackson was during his iconic Ghost film in 1983, and to this day, she says it was her "hardest" job.

"It was dirty, it was prosthetics, it was big, heavy costumes where they dust you down, spray you with cobwebs," she said. "And the dancing was hard because it was very monster-ugly dancing. And I'm used to girly, cute, very elegant dancing."

The biggest surprise came when she explained how the cobwebs were made for the set. "That's a fan and hot glue," she revealed. "That's how they made the cobwebs. It was very cool."

Walker said that Jackson was "very sweet and kind, very appreciative of everyone's talents," on the set of Ghost, but she got to know him even better on tour. "There's only six of us, so we were together more often," she explained. "I remember one day in rehearsal... I asked him if he had ever been to McDonald's, and he said, 'No.' And I was like, 'Oh my gosh, you have to go. Like, you at least have to go to experience it.'"

    Behind-the-Scenes of Coyote Ugly

Another "hard" job Walker worked on was choreographing Coyote Ugly with longtime partner Travis Payne.

When asked which bar they filmed in, Walker admitted it was never a real bar. "It was here in L.A.," she said. "Somewhere off of the 405, like off Jefferson or something in a sound stage there. That was not a real bar... but I'm sure they did exteriors in New York."

The dance expert also revealed that each star (including Piper Perabo, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Tyra Banks, and Bridget Moynahan) had "dance doubles," and the production fell so behind that they had to shoot "24 hours a day" to catch up.

"No breaks for production... Travis would go the first 12 hours, and then I would go the next 12 hours," she recalled. "They'd shoot all day with the actors and then all night with the dance doubles... We would do it like that 'round the clock. Because at a certain point, they were just so behind schedule... losing like a million dollars a day."

Behind-the-Scenes of Courtney Love's "Celebrity Skin"

Walker and Payne worked on Courtney Love's band Hole's 1998 video for "Celebrity Skin," and revealed that a big challenge was finding dancers who were the perfect height.

"That was the first time I worked with Travis," Walker remembered. "We need 10 dancers, all females. Courtney, she's only 5'6, so we need everyone to be around that size... All ethnicities."
