Aleppo, Jan.9 (SANA) Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh conducted Friday a field inspection of temporary shelter centers in Aleppo city today, accompanied by Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib and members of the Central Committee for Aleppo Response.
The minister reviewed conditions for displaced families from Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafieh neighborhoods, as well as surrounding areas impacted by clashes, listening to their urgent needs and evaluating the services provided at the centers.
During the visit, the minister and governor oversaw the distribution of an urgent humanitarian aid convoy in al-Ashrafieh to meet basic needs of affected residents.
The minister, in a post on X, reaffirmed solidarity with the people of Aleppo and the government’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance, enhancing readiness, and coordinating to protect civilians and alleviate their suffering, in line with national and humanitarian responsibilities.
The governorate noted via its official Telegram channel that authorities continue to secure shelter and basic care services, strengthening humanitarian response to safeguard civilians and preserve their dignity.
The governor stressed that the governorate will continue field monitoring of shelter centers and coordinate with relevant authorities to improve services, emphasizing that civilian safety and needs remain a priority until all neighborhoods return to stability.
Earlier, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor opened 64 shelters to host 27,560 displaced families, totaling around 140,000 people.
SDF organization forces had turned Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafieh into bases for attacks on the Syrian Arab Army and Internal Security Forces positions and civilians nearby. The army responded to protect civilians and designated the neighborhoods as military zones, while the government facilitated evacuation through two safe humanitarian corridors despite SDF obstruction attempts.
