Reigning champions Team Fluff will once again be competing against Team Ruff in the Puppy Bowl, now in its 22nd year. This year's call-to-adoption TV event will showcase a record-breaking 150 dogs from 72 shelters across the United States, Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands, including 15 special needs dogs. And, for the first time, the show will highlight senior dogs in the new "Pro-Dog Halftime Showdown."
"Puppy Bowl XXII celebrates the spirit of the underdog with a gameday celebration that combines the excitement of a sports matchup with uplifting adoption stories," Joseph Boyle, head of content at Discovery Channel, said. In addition to the Pro-Dog Halftime Showdown featuring Team Oldies and Team Goldies, new to the 2026 Puppy Bowl is a Barking Lot Tailgate party hosted by Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers. The TV event, which champions pet adoption, will also include an inside look at shelter staff cheering on their Puppy Bowl players.
How many dogs are competing in the 2026 Puppy Bowl?
This year's event will feature a whopping 150 dogs. Among the Team Fluff members are Benito, a Siberian Husky-Chihuahua from Puerto Rico, and Showgirl, a Chow Chow-Rottweiler, while Lobster Roll, a Bulldog-Border Collie, Brûlée, a Boston Terrier-French Bulldog, and Miso, an American Cattle Dog-Beagle, will be playing on Team Ruff. Also hitting the field this year are 15 special needs dogs, including Wynonna, a three-legged pup, and Eleanor, who is deaf and vision-impaired.
