USC quarterback Husan Longstreet is entering the transfer portal.
“I’m incredibly grateful to USC, Coach Riley and the coaching staff, my teammates, and the entire Trojan Family,” Longstreet wrote in a social media post.
“As a hometown kid, representing USC was an incredible opportunity I’ll always cherish. The relationships I’ve built will stay with me forever.”
Longstreet got into four games last season as a backup for starting quarterback Jayden Maiava, who is returning next season. Longstreet, a former Corona Centennial High star, completed 13 passes for 15 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 76 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.
He entered the portal on the same day that his older brother, Kevin, transferred to New Mexico State. Kevin was rated as a three-star transfer by on3.com.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley addressed the possibility of the younger Longstreet brother entering the portal back in November. He cited the success of previous quarterbacks he has coached as a reason to stay.
“Other than Jalen Hurts, we haven’t had any quarterback that just came in and was the guy right away,” Riley told reporters. “Every one of them, all the guys that did all the things, they all had their time and that time was valuable for them.
“Maybe they wanted to be playing, of course, the competitor in them – but if you asked them now, they are all damn happy that they all had that time.”
USC will either look to the transfer portal, which is open until Jan. 16, for a new backup or choose to develop incoming freshman Jonas Williams.
Williams is a four-star recruit who prepped at Bolingbrook and Lincoln-Way East in Illinois. He was a four-year starter in high school and holds state records for his 11,347 career passing yards and 147 career passing touchdowns.
He had offers from 29 schools, including 27 schools from power four conferences, and flipped his commitment from Oregon to USC in February.
