It's been over 20 years since Interpol burst onto the NYC music scene alongside such acts as the Strokes, but the indie rockers are still going strong. Not only is the group playing Coachella in California this year, but they've just confirmed a series of dates before and after the iconic festival.
As the band announced in a recent Instagram post, Interpol will be playing in Sacramento, California on April 9 in advance of their first weekend set at Coachella (on April 11). Next, they'll perform in Tucson, Arizona on April 13; El Paso, Texas on April 14; Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 16 and Phoenix, Arizona on April 17. They'll head back to Indio for their second Coachella set on April 18. Opening act Model/Actriz will perform at every show except Tucson.
Commenters were definitely thrilled to hear the news.

In an interview with Headliner, singer Paul Banks reflected on the 20th anniversary of Interpol's 2004 album Antics, noting that the band had been playing the album live in its entirety as well as looking through photos and recordings from that time period.
“It’s humbling and it puts into context the passing of time, as it doesn’t feel that long ago,” he said. “One still remembers it vividly, but so much has come and gone since then. And revisiting those memories and doing something commemorative for a period of your life is a beautiful thing; it gives you an excuse to bring out those old photographs that transport you to memories you haven’t dusted off in a while. You think about mortality, and it puts things into context."
“I often think about the idea that you only get one shot at this and how have you spent that time,” Banks continued. “One has a lot of creative ambitions in life, and you can only do so many things, but the fact that one of the things I’ve been able to achieve was a collaborative effort feels important. Going it alone is great and there are personal accomplishments, but to accomplish things collaboratively feels like time well spent. So, looking back at those times feels heartening; that this band of weirdos could make four records together means a lot — that’s regarding the original lineup.”
