Travis Kelce in Talks With Netflix for Major Broadcasting Role

Travis Kelce is already lining up his next power moves as fans wait with bated breath for an announcement about his NFL future.

Kelce, 36, is in talks with Netflix to “serve as their exclusive broadcast sports correspondent,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.

Terms of a potential deal are “still being finalized, but discussions are well underway,” according to the insider.

Netflix had no comment when reached by Us Weekly.

How Travis Kelce’s Teammates Hinted at His Retirement in Chiefs’ Locker Room

Another source exclusively told Us that Kelce “has had talks with his team about retiring and not playing football next season.” Those talks have been about what his next career move would be if he does decide to retire.

Kelce hinted that he was still in the process of making up his mind about his future on the Wednesday, January 7 episode of his podcast, “New Heights.”

“It’s a tough thing to navigate, but at the same time, I think if my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat,” he said. “I think right now it’s just finding that answer and seeing how the body feels after this game and when it all settles down.”

If he decides to go the TV route, Kelce could command an annual salary of “anywhere from $10 to $20 million,” The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported on Monday, January 5.

Netflix has become a major player in live sports content in recent years, broadcasting NFL games for the first time in 2024.

Later this year, Netflix will begin streaming multiple live MLB events every season, in addition to its partnership with WWE and live boxing content.

Former ESPN anchor Elle Duncan signed a multiyear deal in December to lead its live sports coverage. She will make her debut during Skyscraper Live on January 23 when free solo climber Alex Honnold attempts to scale Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan.

As for Kelce, the future Hall of Fame tight end discussed retirement speculation after the Kansas City Chiefs’ season came to an end on Sunday, January 4.

“I’ve got so much love for this team, this organization and the people here, so I’ll spend some time with them, go through exit meetings tomorrow and get close to the family and figure things out,” Kelce told reporters after the Chiefs’ loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kelce was faced with the same decision last offseason after the Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. At the time, Kelce said he “knew right away” that he wanted to return for another season.

“Who knows? Either it hits me quick or I gotta take some time,” Kelce said. “I think last year was a little bit easier.”

The Chiefs organization faces an uncertain future on multiple fronts in the aftermath of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ torn ACL suffered on December 14. It is not clear whether Mahomes, 30, will be ready to go when the season kicks off in the fall.

Kelce’s decision faces another layer of intrigue as the NFL star prepares to marry his fiancée, Taylor Swift.

Swift, 36, and Kelce got engaged in August.

Travis’ older brother, Jason Kelce, who faced a similar retirement conundrum in 2024, advised the Chiefs star to take his time in deciding what the future looks like.

“In my opinion, to nail that decision, you have to step away from the game for a little bit,” Jason said on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown in December. “Play these last three games, enjoy them with your teammates, enjoy them with your coaches. The team’s going to be different no matter whether you come back or not next year.”

Two months after Jason, 38, retired, he signed a three-year, $24 million deal with ESPN.

The network reportedly won a bidding war with CBS, NBC and Prime Video at the time.
