Five years ago, pop star Olivia Rodrigo released her generational hit, Drivers License. To celebrate the anniversary, Talking Heads front man, and mentor to Rodrigo, David Byrne, released a cover of the song on Thursday.
Rodrigo has openly admired rock legends like Byrne over the years as she has honed her musical style. Back in June, the two took the stage together to perform the Talking Heads classic Burning Down The House at Governors Ball Festival in New York City.
Drivers License, first released on Jan. 8, 2021, was the lead single for her debut album, SOUR, reaching insurmountable levels of success. Within the first week of release, the track rose to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, an incredible achievement for a young artist. Since, Rodrigo has gone on to release her sophomore album, GUTS, and win countless awards for her artistry.

Byrne's cover, released on Spotify and Apple Music, was highlighted by Rodrigo with a post to her Instagram this afternoon.
The caption reads, "SOUR is turning 5 years old this year! and to celebrate, i'm so excited to announce an upcoming series of reimagined SOUR covers from some of my favorite artists ever. we're starting off insanely strong with an incredible reworking of 'drivers license' from one of my all-time heroes, David Byrne."
