ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Gates Chili Central School District and the East Irondequoit Central School District sent a letter out to families Thursday about a non-credible threat circulating on social media.
In the letter sent by Gates Chili, the district says students reported seeing a TikTok video that made vague threats towards schools in Rochester, Livingston County, Buffalo, and other local schools.
Although the district says it doesn’t believe the threat is credible, the district still shared the video with law enforcement, and say its security staff and School Resource Officer “will remain vigilant.”
“While often intended as a joke or prank, videos like this can cause a real disruption to learning in our buildings,” the district said in the letter.
According to the East Irondequoit School District, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the threat and are investigating. The district says the sheriff’s office determined the video originated out of Texas.
