Even if I did attend with a Packers fan, I must admit that I truly enjoyed attending a live session of The Athletic Football Show podcast on Wednesday at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. The Bears conversation was fun and enjoyable. Listening to the pod live (and being in attendance) gave me an extra boost going into this week. That show just added a new subscriber.
This city is so Bears-crazy right now that it is bleeding into hockey:we aren't. ?⬇️@ChicagoBears t.co/tKF0nb7IV3

I hope that we don’t see any funny business from either team. The last thing this rivalry needs is to devolve into dirty hits and cheap shots. It feels like a good time to poimt out that Saturday’s Bears-Packers playoff game will be officiated by Adrian Hill, whose crews have had a tendency to be flag-happy. The folks at Football Zebras have the details on the rest of Hill’s crew, which includes officials who worked with John Hussey, Bill Vinovich, Craig Wrolstad, and Brad Rogers. I’ll be curious to see how this all-star squad of officicals from different crews works together for the first time. © Mark Hoffman / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Miami Dolphins GM search is reportedly down to four candidates: Jon-Eric Sullivan (Packers VP of Player Personnel), Josh Williams (49ers Director of Scouting and Football Operations), Chad Alexander (Assistant GM), and Champ Kelly (Dolphins Interim GM, who worked in the Bears front office from 2015-21). And now, they have officially have a head-coach opening after dumping Mike McDaniel on Thursday morning. For what it’s worth, there seems to be some mutual admiration between McDaniel and Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson.Mike McDaniel on Ben Johnson: “I have the highest regard for him as a football coach. Offensive football is made to have kind of an attack-like pretense to it. He attacks all the time. He’s innovative and puts his players in positions to succeed, which I think is the nameplate – head coach, you should be able to do that for players.”
Ben Johnson on Mike McDaniel: “I’ve always respected him from afar. When he was in San Francisco to now Miami, some of the stuff, in particular the run game, it’s next level. There’s no one else that does it quite like he does. He finds a way to find space to the inside and perimeter runs. He can gash teams that way. He is a little bit of that mad scientist. There’s a lot of respect there just from a schematic standpoint. I know they’ve got a good one there.”
If Mike McDaniel doesn’t get a head coaching job or offensive coordinator position in the offseason, I’d be totally on board with bringing him into the fold in Chicago. Perhaps that might be something we kick the tires on if someone like Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle gets poached by a team that gives him play-calling duties. The Sun-Times has a story on John Damore, the oldest living Chicago Bear, who at age 92, is holding out hope that this Bears team has a Super Bowl run in it this winter. Next year’s Bears schedule features matchups against the four NFC South teams. And when they face the New Orleans Saints, it will likely be with Tyler Shough under center. The Saints have publicly committed to Shough as their QB1 in 2026. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports (via Twitter/X) the Baltimore Ravens have put in a request to interview Minnesota Vikings Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores for the team’s vacant head coaching position. Flores’ defenses have been pretty darn good in Minnesota. And if the Ravens were to hire him as their head coach, I think quarterbacks and offensive play callers around the NFC North would throw a parade.
