Cold weather shelters will open Thursday night in Jefferson County as a snowstorm moves across Colorado, according to county officials.
The shelters will be open from 9 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Saturday “due to projected precipitation and overnight low temperatures,” an alert from Jefferson County stated.
“Cold weather poses a serious danger to people who are unsheltered, and Jefferson County encourages community members to seek available resources,” the alert stated.
The county’s cold weather shelters are activated when temperatures are expected to drop below 32 degrees and more than an inch of snow is in the forecast, or when temperatures are 20 degrees or lower, with or without snow.
Available shelters include:
Evergreen Christian Outreach at 27888 Meadow Drive in Evergreen, which is open nightly from 6:15 p.m. to 7 a.m. from mid-October through April. All guests must call 303-670-1796 to register with the shelter before staying. Jefferson County Public Library branches, which act as daytime warming centers during extreme weather.Related Articles
