70s Rock Legend, 80, Playing Popular Festival for the First Time in 10 Years

Summer and spring are the best times for live music fans, with star-studded festivals lasting for days. And if you're into classic rock, this year is looking to be particularly bright: From Lynyrd Skynyrd to Foreigner to Chicago and so many more, there are plenty of chart-topping acts to choose from — and now one legendary rocker has just been added to a very exclusive event.

Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty will be playing at this year's Greenwich Town Party in Greenwich, CT, on May 23, 2026, as part of a pretty impressive lineup which also includes chart-topping '90s rocker Dave Matthews and New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

This will be Fogerty's first appearance at the day-long festival since 2016, while Matthews last played a surprise set in 2012, per Greenwich Time.

Unfortunately, Greenwich Town Party tickets are only available to Greenwich residents. (Previous years have featured such headliners as Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Zac Brown Band and Paul Simon.) However, Fogerty does have a handful of other dates planned for 2026 so far, according to his website, including concerts in Las Vegas and Mexico in March.

John Fogerty knew 'Proud Mary' was a classic right away

In a 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, Fogerty reflected on turning 80 years old and the legacy of his music.

"When you’re watching TV these days, all these medical commercials — they say the side effects may include...and the very last statement is 'diarrhea and death.' There’s a song in there for me — 'Diarrhea and Death,'" he quipped.

"I must admit, I really did not notice the clock or the end of the playing field. You hit 80 on the clock and it’s like, 'Boy, that’s a scary-looking number!' But I’ve always known my songs would live for a long time," he continued. "Actually at the moment I created 'Proud Mary' — and this was the first time it happened — when I wrote 'Proud Mary,' I looked at the page and I went, 'Oh, my God, I’ve written a classic.'"

Further proof that Fogerty's songs are classic: Fans are still lining up to hear him play live.
