‘90s Shock Rock Icon Loses Band Member After 12 Years

Marilyn Manson has lost a key member of his band after more than 12 years of working together.

Guitarist and producer Tyler Bates has officially announced that he will no longer tour with the shock rock icon, ending a long and important chapter in Manson’s modern era.

The news comes as Manson prepares for a major 2026 world tour and the release of a new album, making the timing especially notable for fans.

Bates shared the decision in a public statement, explaining that he is stepping away to focus on his other creative work in film, television and his own artist projects. While he will no longer appear on stage with Manson, Bates made it clear that the split is friendly and based on career direction, not conflict.

“Every New Year prompts reflection on all that has transpired and what lies ahead,” Bates wrote. “In light of this, I have decided to conclude my time touring with Marilyn Manson to focus on my artist, film, and television projects.”

Tyler Bates first began working with Marilyn Manson in 2014, becoming one of the most important collaborators in the singer’s later career. Over the years, Bates helped shape the sound of four albums, including The Pale Emperor (2015), Heaven Upside Down (2017), and One Assassination Under God — Chapter 1 (2024). He also worked on the upcoming follow-up, Chapter 2, which is expected to arrive in 2026.

In his message, Bates took time to thank the other musicians who shared the stage with him. He praised drummer Gil Sharone, guitarist Reba Meyers, and bassist Matt “Piggy D” Montgomery, calling them “stellar humans on and off stage.”

He added that he would miss performing for fans across the globe while supporting One Assassination Under God — Chapter One.

Those bandmates returned the respect publicly. Meyers wrote, “Love you Tyler will miss you up there,” while Sharone added a simple but heartfelt, “Much love Tyler!”

What Tyler Bates’ Exit Means for Marilyn Manson’s Future

Although Bates is no longer touring with the band, he stressed that he is not fully walking away from Marilyn Manson’s music. In fact, he confirmed that he will continue to support the release of Chapter 2, which he described as their strongest collaboration yet.

“I’m stepping away, but I will be actively supporting the upcoming release of ‘Chapter Two,’ my fourth album with Manson, which I believe is our finest work together,” Bates said.

This reassurance is particularly important as Manson gears up for his 2026 tour, which is set to begin in April and will continue across the United States. The tour supports Chapter 1 while also setting the stage for Chapter 2, an album that has yet to receive an official release date.

The news also arrives during a turning point for Manson personally and professionally. The singer recently celebrated his 57th birthday surrounded by fellow musicians, actors and longtime collaborators.

During the event, he told guests that 2026 would be “even better,” promising a new album, a world tour and continued sobriety.

As Bates focuses on his successful career in film and television scoring, and Manson prepares to step back onto the global stage, both artists appear to be moving forward with respect and optimism.
