The University will begin candidate recruitment this month in its national search for its next provost.
Former provost James T. Dalton, who had served as provost since 2020, left the University in November to serve as Louisiana State University’s executive vice president and chancellor. The University announced the search for Dalton’s replacement Dec. 17.
The search for the provost will be facilitated by the Provost Search Advisory Committee. The co-chairs of the committee are Julie Sanford, dean of the Capstone College of Nursing, and Stuart Usdan, dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences.
According to the UA News Center, students and members of the campus community can provide feedback through a survey or by recommending and nominating candidates until Saturday.
Included on the committee are two students, SGA president Lucy Bonhaus and graduate student representative Teegan Mathey.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the provost search committee and to represent the student voice through this process,” Bonhaus said. “As the search [moves] forward, I am excited to see what the future holds for the University of Alabama.”
Mathey, a current MBA candidate at the Manderson Graduate School, said she was “honored to represent the Graduate School and the broader student body in a process that will shape the academic experience at The University of Alabama for years to come.”
“The provost plays a critical role in setting academic priorities and supporting student success, and I am focused on advocating for a leader who is collaborative, student-centered, and committed to academic excellence and the long-term vision of the University,” she said.
Other members of the committee include faculty representatives such as professors and administrative officers.
