TV personality Spencer Pratt announces run for LA mayor at Palisades fire rally

Reality television personality Spencer Pratt announced Wednesday that he is running for mayor of Los Angeles, making the declaration while speaking at a rally marking the one-year anniversary of the Palisades fire.

Pratt, who said he lost his home in the fire, becomes the latest figure to enter the 2026 mayoral race, joining a growing list of candidates amid heightened scrutiny of wildfire preparedness, public safety and housing affordability.

Speaking as a scheduled speaker at the “They Let Us Burn” rally in Pacific Palisades, Pratt framed his candidacy as a response to what he described as systemic failures in wildfire preparedness, response and recovery.

“Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m done waiting for someone to take real action,” Pratt said. “That’s why I’m running for mayor.”

Pratt described the city’s governance as “fundamentally broken,” saying he believes it is designed to protect those in power rather than residents affected by disasters.

Pratt said he grew up in the Palisades and had expected to raise his family there, until “the future I envisioned for my family burned to the ground,” adding that he believes the fire was preventable.

Pratt is best known for his role on the MTV reality series “The Hills” and has remained a public figure through entertainment projects and social media. He has not held elected office.

Pratt confirmed his mayoral bid with an Instagram post Wednesday, sharing a photo of himself filling out campaign paperwork and writing, “Yes, it’s official. Papers are filed and campaign is open.”

Pratt joins 21 other candidates in the 2026 Los Angeles mayoral race, according to filings with the city’s Ethics Commission, a field that includes former LAUSD Superintendent Austin Beutner and housing advocate Rae Huang.

Other prominent figures, including developer Rick Caruso and Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, have also been widely reported to be considering run for mayor.
