A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Mays played at The Benjamin School. He was rated 4-stars coming out of high school, collecting 40 scholarship offers in his original recruitment. Mays was a 3-sport athlete in high school, capturing gold at Florida’s 1A track meet as a junior in both the 400-meter dash and triple jump.
Mays joins the Gators with 2 remaining seasons of eligibility. In 2023, he logged a total of 40 snaps while playing in 4 games, allowing him to take a redshirt for the year.
As a redshirt freshman, Mays appeared in 12 games with 9 starts. He posted 16 receptions for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns. This past season, Mays played in 10 games and recorded 18 catches for 302 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Jon Sumrall and receivers coaches Marcus Davis and Trent McKnight will be busy rebuilding Florida‘s wide receiver room via the transfer portal. The Gators saw multiple wide receivers enter the portal and have so far brought in Mays and Georgia Tech transfer Bailey Stockton.
