UCLA football stocks up on receivers in transfer portal

Open up the playbook: UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava will have a few new wide receivers, among multiple Wednesday transfer commits, to work with in 2026.

A trio of wide receivers – Florida’s Aidan Mizell, James Madison’s Landon Ellis and San Jose State’s Leland Smith – joined UCLA’s transfer class Wednesday morning, according to multiple reports. Mizell, Ellis and Smith combined for 1,489 receiving yards in 2025, with the latter two eclipsing more than 600 receiving yards each.

UCLA’s transfer class now stands at 13 commits as of Wednesday morning.

Mizell spent three seasons at Florida after starting his collegiate career as a consensus four-star recruit out of the Orlando area. Across three seasons, the 6-foot-1 wideout recorded 404 receiving yards and four touchdowns – and tallied the seventh-most yards on the Gators in 2025.

Where Mizell could truly cause an impact is with his speed, coming from a high-school track background where he put up a 10.65-second 100-meter time, as the Bruins attempt to replace the profiles of graduating receiver Titus Mokaio-Atimalala and outgoing transfer Kwazi Gilmer.

Ellis becomes the sixth James Madison player to join UCLA and, so far, would be the highest-impact addition for when it comes to potential offensive firepower. The third-team All-Sun Belt receiver tallied 36 receptions for 624 receiving yards (17.3 yards per catch) and five touchdowns in 2025.

Against Oregon in the College Football Playoff, Ellis was second on James Madison with 83 receiving yards on three catches. Adding UCLA coach Bob Chesney’s top receiver from a season ago can help boost offensive output in an area the Bruins struggled under former coach DeShaun Foster and interim coach Tim Skipper.

Smith – at 6-foot-4 – becomes an immediate red-zone threat for Iamaleava in the end zone. The former Fullerton College product, before stopping at Purdue, tallied 688 receiving yards for San Jose State last season – a mark that would have topped UCLA’s receivers corps.

UCLA had wide receivers Carter Shaw, Jaedon Wilson, Ezavier Staples, Rico Flores Jr., Jadyn Marshall and Gilmer enter the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.

Bringing three new receivers in the doors of Wasserman Football Center helps to start mending the current wideout opening in the roster.

    A late-night Tuesday addition

Iowa State reserve running back Dylan Lee announced his transfer to UCLA after playing sporadically during his redshirt freshman season with the Cyclones. The Chandler, Arizona, native recorded 117 rushing yards and a touchdown in 2025 – and joins defensive back Ta’Shawn James as the second UCLA transfer from Iowa State.
