Beverly D'Angelo rose to stardom as Ellen Griswold in the National Lampoon's Vacation films, but she has one regret as she looks back on her career at 74.
The beloved actress, who originated the role of Ellen Griswold alongside Chevy Chase‘s Clark W. Griswold in the first Vacation film in 1983, played the iconic role of Ellen in several follow-ups, including 1989’s beloved holiday version,Christmas Vacation. But in 2025, D'Angelo opened up about something she would have done differently.
"I have to say, people ask me, ‘What would you say to your younger self?’ I would’ve said, ‘Do more nudity,’" D'Angelo told Fox News Digital in a new interview.
D’Angelo, who appears next alongside Hayden Panettiere in the psychological thrillerSleepwalker, recalled that she saw actress Christie Brinkley struggling with going topless in Vacation. That's when she stepped in.
"I sure love the story, and it sounds like exactly where I’d step in and say, ‘Leave this girl alone,’" said D'Angelo. "Her being topless really wasn’t that pivotal to what was going on in the scene. But, I thought it really made a difference to see the little devoted wife say to her husband, ‘OK, you want to have fun? I’ll show you fun,’ and then just strip off. I thought that was great. I thought it was really perfect."
D'Angelo noted that she "didn't have any qualms about it," and "the pool was heated."

“The holidays are full of joy, cheer, and, let’s be honest, a little chaos. Everyone’s merry, everyone’s messy, and somehow, someone always ends up sleeping on the couch. That’s where Wyndham Rewards comes in,” D’Angelo said in a statement. “With more than 20 brands and thousands of hotels, it’s the simple way to stay close to family—without being too close. A real bed, extra perks, and a little breathing room? Now that’s how you brighten the season without tripping a breaker.”
