Modelo is starting the new year with a new drop, said to deliver "bold, authentic flavor"—just without any of the alcohol.
The internationally adored beer brand ended 2025 with a big release, introducing a limited-time holiday amber lager inspired by traditional Nochebuena traditions with caramel-malt flavors, dubbed Noche Especial. And it looks like Modelo is picking up right where it left off, with another twist on a longtime favorite.
With one week of the new year officially in the books, Modelo is making fans an offer that won't jeopardize any Dry January challenges or 2026 resolutions and is releasing its first-ever non-alcoholic chelada.
“People want choices without having to compromise, and Modelo Chelada Non‑Alcoholic does exactly that,” Logan Jensen, vice president of brand marketing at Modelo, explained in a Jan. 7 press release.

Modelo's Cheladas are its spin on micheladas. This popular Mexican beer cocktail that typically features a light lager, fresh lime juice, tomato or Clamato juice, hot sauce and a salt rim. It's not to be confused with the similar cocktail, Cheladas, which are a stripped-down version of the michelada, made with just a light lager, lime juice and a salt rim.
Modelo currently offers several Cheladas in flavors like strawberry, mango & chile, watermelon & chile, orange & chile, pineapple & chile, lime & salt, but this is the first to take the popular Mexican beer cocktail and recreate it without any alcohol.

Modelo said its Cheladas have been the "leading RTD Michelada for six straight calendar years" with "consistent year-over-year growth" since the line debuted in 2013 and it hopes that this expansion into new territory will build on the brand's "flavor dominance" and give consumers "the taste they know and love" in a new format that taps into consumer trends and more mindful drinking habits.
“Limón y Sal has been the fan favorite in our ready-to-drink Chelada lineup for six years running, so it was the obvious pick for our first non‑alcoholic release," Jensen added. "It brings moderation and flavor together, with the authentic sabor that defines the Modelo Chelada product line."
The new Modelo Chelada Limón y Sal Non-Alcoholic appears to use a very similar recipe to the highly-rated version it released in 2019 (the original does contain alcohol). Reviewing the nutrition facts of the new, non-alcoholic version, it's relatively low in calories and contains only 17.3 carbs, 60 calories, 1 gram of protein and zero fat per 12-ounce can.
