New York, Jan. 7 (SANA) More than one million people in the Gaza Strip remain in urgent need of shelter assistance, despite recent progress in food deliveries, a United Nations spokesman said on Tuesday.
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, told reporters that the latest round of aid will, for the first time since 2023, meet the minimum nutritional requirements for Gaza’s population.
“Families had previously been receiving only between 50% and 75% of the calories needed to remain healthy,” Dujarric said.
He added that more than 10,000 metric tons of aid were delivered last week, including food, cooking supplies, animal feed, hygiene items, winter clothing, and blankets.
The Gaza Strip continues to face severe challenges in providing food and shelter to hundreds of thousands of families, amid a prolonged humanitarian crisis following the Israeli war that began two years ago and killed more than 70.000 Palestinians.
