Police say that a man they’ve arrested in Indiana was driving drunk and under the influence of pills when he threatened to kill another couple at a stop sign, just because their cars crossed paths on the road.
Jay Messer is facing several charges following the incident, including three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, intimidation, pointing a firearm at another person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Messer, 60, is being held at the Hancock County Jail and was given a $200,000 cash bond, according to online records viewed by Us Weekly.
The incident took place on Christmas Day 2025, when a man and woman were driving behind a black Jeep Grand Cherokee on 79th Street in Indianapolis, according to court documents viewed by Fox 59. The Jeep came to rest at a stop sign and didn’t move “after several rotations of it being the driver’s turn to go.” After waiting for the Jeep driver — who has since been identified as Messer — to move, the man drove around the vehicle and continued east into Hancock County.

Messer yelled at the couple as they drove off and started following them, while his vehicle was reportedly “swerving” during the pursuit.
The couple eventually stopped at another stop sign, which reportedly led Messer to pull up behind them and point a gun at the vehicle as he yelled through the window, “I will f**king kill you.”
As the man and woman drove away, the wife took a photo of Messer’s license plate. The couple then left him behind, and Messer continued driving in an allegedly reckless manner.
The incidents with Messer continued around 2 p.m. that same day when someone called 911 to report a disturbance inside a black Jeep Grand Cherokee in McCordsville Sports Park, which is about 20 miles away from 79th Street in Indianapolis. Police said that the vehicle pulled onto State Road 67 and swerved in and out of the lanes, per the Fox 59 report.
Officers arrived at the scene and pulled over Messer, who allegedly “had trouble standing up” and “urinated in his pants” as he got out of the Jeep.
Police searched Messer’s car and reportedly found ammo for a Winchester .380, as well as an envelope with a “large amount” of cash and “various” drugs that included Alprazolam and Clonazepam.
When asked if he had been drinking, Messer told authorities that he had “a little alcohol” and he was on “many medications.” When he was then given a breathalyzer test, it was determined that he had a BAC of 0.250. That number is more than three times the legal limit of 0.08.
Authorities also found weapons including a Glock 42, a loaded MP Smith & Wesson and a Ruger .380 in Messer’s Jeep, as well as a “blue bag containing what appeared to be cremated human remains.”
After authorities pulled over Messer, they concluded that he was also involved in the altercation with the couple that occurred earlier in the day.
