PENN YAN, N.Y. — The search for a Yates County woman has concluded after she turned herself in to authorities.
Penn Yan police said Ashley Montgomery abandoned a 13-year-old child and two dogs in a village apartment back in 2023. Neighbors noticed the situation after two weeks, during which time Montgomery fled to Syracuse.
Montgomery turned herself in following a search that included a wanted poster. She is currently in jail awaiting arraignment.
The child was relocated to a safe location, and the dogs have been found new homes.
