Cole Kmet is a Chicagoland guy who knows the local sports scene all too well.
And heading into Saturday’s Bears-Packers playoff game, it sounds like Kmet is ready to rewrite Chicago Sports history. Or, at a minimum, write a new chapter with the blank page that this season has provided. This is quite the quote pull via 670 The Score’s Chris Emma:
“I feel like that with Chicago sports in general. Always felt like that with the Cubs, here obviously in Chicago with the Bears, it’s kind of felt like that recently with the Bulls. You talk about the ‘90s and that’s kind of far away now at this point. I’m not taking shots or anything but that’s kind of what it is. I think Chicago is just a city deeply rooted in history, which is awesome and it’s what makes it such a special place. But that being said, we want to build our own history here. We have a chance to do that on Saturday.”

Long-time BN readers know that it hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows around here when writing about the Bears — or the other teams under our coverage umbrella. The Cubs have just two playoff series wins since hoisting the World Series trophy after the 2016 season. Tough times have accompanied the Blackhawks more often than not since the end of the glory days of the Jonathan Toews-Patrick Kane-Duncan Keith championship-winning window. The United Center’s other tennant, the Bulls, have been running on the treadmill of mediocrity for years. It has been painful to watch. As for the White Sox, the less I say, the better.
And with that in mind, I look forward to seeing Cole Kmet and his Bears teammates taking to the Soldier Field surface and trying their hand at writing a new chapter of Chicago sports history.

Because he was taken a few picks ahead of 2020 NFL Draft classmate Jaylon Johnson, tight end Cole Kmet is technically the longest-tenured active Bears player. Kmet was a rookie when the Bears qualified for the playoffs in 2020 as the first-ever No. 7 seed. He caught three passes for 16 yards while playing on 83.7 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in that game. So I imagine Kmet is ready to get that taste out of his mouth and make an impact in his second career playoff game. Heck, I’m ready for it. Few players have had it as rough as Kmet since joining Chicago’s football team.
MATT FORTE SOUNDS OFF AHEAD OF THIS WEEKEND’S PLAYOFF GAME VS. PACKERS
Think about the things Cole Kmet has experienced as a member of the Chicago Bears. He has played with eight different starting quarterbacks (Mitchell Trubisky, Nick Foles, Andy Dalton, Justin Fields, Trevor Siemian, Nathan Peterman, Tyson Bagent, Caleb Williams), suited up for four different head coaches (Matt Nagy, Matt Eberflus, Thomas Brown, Ben Johnson), and operated in schemes orchestrated by for five different offensive play callers (Nagy, Bill Lazor, Luke Getsy, Brown, Johnson). Before this season, the Bears were 29-55 during Kmet’s time with the team. So you know he is absolutely relishing in the glory that the 2025 NFL season has brought to this Bears squad. However, he also knows there are bigger fish to fry.

Mandatory Credit: Brad Rempel-Imagn ImagesSaturday’s Bears-Packers game might be the most-hyped matchup in this franchise’s storied history. When Chicago’s football team takes the field, it will do so with someone who knows what a win would mean to this fan base. And you just know that Cole Kmet would love to change the narrative by taking down Green Bay in a home playoff game at Soldier Field.
