He will be returning to an SEC program in 2026 after beginning his collegiate career at Oklahoma before playing the past 2 seasons at NC State.
Smothers was one of the highest-rated players in the transfer portal, rating as the No. 2 running back, according to 247Sports, so Alabama appears to be getting a prize addition who could reshape its running attack next fall.
