After nearly 30 years on television, fans have seemingly seen the last ofThe Simpsons' longtime Duff Beer mascot, The Duffman, on the hit Fox animated series.
Though a beloved staple of The Simpsons for the past three decades, TVLine reported that The Duffman is unlikely to appear in a future Simpsons episode, with his character receiving something of a final sendoff in the show's most recent episode.
Parodying Apple TV's popular Severance, "Seperance" finds the Simpsons interacting with the Duff Beer mascot as he enters the family's home to notify him about his apparent retirement.
Dressed in a conservative outfit that stands in sharp contrast to his trademark blue and red superhero outfit, the former Duffman goes on to explain that he is now a representative for an enigmatic corporation known as Enthusiasm on Demand.
Addressing his former stint in Duff Beer, The Duffman tells the Simpsons, "The Duff Corporation has, uh, retired that character forever. All the old forms of advertising are now passé. Corporate spokesmen, print ads, TV spots — today's kids can't even sing the jingles."
Initially introduced in 1997's "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson," The Duffman (also known by his civilian name of Barry Duffman) quickly became one of the most popular side characters ever featured in The Simpsons.
Easily identified via his signature Duff-inspired outfit, red cape, blue body suit, red cap and wayfarer sunglasses, the character was also known for his famous catchphrase: "Oh, yeah!"
As People magazine was quick to point out, Duffman's exit from the series comes approximately two months after another long-standing Simpsons character, First Church Organist Alice Glick, was similarly written off the show.
At the time of the character's death and subsequent memorial service in “Sashes to Sashes," Alice had appeared on The Simpsons for 35 seasons.
"In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made," executive producer Tim Long told People of Alice's demise. "But in another, more important sense, yep she's dead as a doornail."
