Freebie of the Week: Tour the world’s largest wildlife crossing

Calling all animal lovers: Here’s a chance to tour the world’s largest wildlife crossing, under construction now in Agoura Hills. It will cross 10 lanes of the 101 Freeway, reconnecting a critical wildlife corridor in the Santa Monica Mountains and possibly save the region’s cougars from extinction.

Docents will explain how the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing was designed, what it’s supposed to do and how it will help animals when it’s completed. Road development has cut off many animals from their native terrain. Learn about the local wildlife, habitat restoration and view the work in progress from a distance.

Tours last around 50 minutes and involve uneven terrain and one of the two involves a short hike. Sneakers or hiking boots should be worn. Reservations are required. Rain will result in the tour being rescheduled. Only two adults per reservation. Several weekend tours are available, including Jan. 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31.
