Durable, comfortable, inexpensive band for Apple Watch Ultra 3
I have purchased several Apple Watches and have struggled to find the optimal band. I like the Ocean band for scuba diving, the Trail Loop band for everyday comfort, and the black Milanese Loop for more formal outings. However, the prices are a bit steep: ~$100 per piece for the Ocean/Trail/Alpine bands and ~$200 for the Milanese Loop. I liked the look, design, and color of the Milanese Loop’s strap, but did not like the feel when exercising, sweating, or for daily activity. I was afraid I would ding, scratch, or otherwise damage the strap and felt the need to remove the watch to protect it. Luckily, several companies offer high-quality watch bands at a fraction of the cost of Apple’s branded straps. Accessorize your Apple Watch Ultra 3 without breaking the bank.
The WITHit Sport Iconic Silicone Band for Apple Watch arrived in a black-colored cardboard box. The outer packaging proudly displayed the company name, product mission “BUILT ON THE IDEA THAT STYLE, FUNCTION, QUALITY & VALUE ARE ALL THAT MATTERS,” and a fun white-turquoise colored slogan,“DESIGNED FOR YOU. BUILT FOR LIFE.” I appreciated the company’s mission, vision, and goals regarding affordable, quality gear. The two-piece WITHit Sport Iconic Silicone Band for Apple Watch, like the Keeperless Sport Silicone band reviewed previously, was presented on a clean, sterile, white backboard with the company name/logo at the bottom edge. I removed the 0.7-ounce silicone strap from the backing and separated the two halves.
The WITHit band components were divided into a shorter, stubbier, 0.4-ounce, 3 3/4-inch-long strap, and a longer, slimmer, 0.3-ounce, 5 1/4-inch-long strap. Each strap had an Apple Watch connector segment that measured 1 3/8 inches wide and tapered down to a 7/8-inch-wide by 1/8-inch-thick strap. The shorter strap had a metallic buckle and tongue and two strap retention bands. The longer strap had 10 tongue-groove holes for the watch band tongue. I liked the build, design, color, and feel of the watch strap. My nostalgic inner kid reimagined a classic Casio G-Shock band-like feel to the Sport Iconic Silicone Band.
As a right-handed person, I typically wear my Apple Watch Ultra 3 on my left wrist with the crown dial facing upward and toward the top right. Each strap component was made from thin, lightweight, matte-black silicone, with dual horizontal groove cutouts near the watch attachment point for added flexibility. I aligned and then inserted the smaller strap into the top groove of the Apple Watch. I then aligned and inserted the longer strap into the lower groove on the Apple Watch Ultra 3. The straps had spring inserts that aligned with the groove/button on the Apple Watch. You can slide the straps into the grooves and they will lock into place. Press the Watch’s release button, then slide the straps out of the grooves to remove them.
I aligned my Apple Watch 3 Ultra on my left wrist, wrapped the longer, lower strap around the base of my wrist, and then slid the band into the shorter strap’s buckle. I slid the tongue into the fourth hole and then guided the remaining tail through the dual silicone locking rings to secure the longer strap. I was pleased with the 2.9-ounce total weight, the tactical, sleek black color, and the snug, yet non-constricting strap fit. I tried the tongue in the third hole on the strap, but found that it was too tight on my wrist. The fifth hole was too loose, while the fourth hole provided that “just right” Goldilocks feel.
With our recent span of unseasonably warm weather, my wife, kids, and I have enjoyed several outdoor activities. We have gone on walks, visited the local park, gone on a few bike rides, played some pickleball, and my middle son and I played catch with a baseball. I have started a 10-a-day push-up challenge for the year and completed the last five days of push-ups. I have enjoyed the Apple Watch tracker feature while walking around the Nashville mall, completing my daily two-mile treadmill walk, and tracking my daily steps and health.
I enjoyed the lightweight design, the matte black color, the premium silicone feel, and the strap’s feel against my wrist. As noted above, the Silicone band provided a nostalgic Casio G-Shock strap feel, taking me back to my childhood. I liked that the strap hugged my skin, without creating a sweaty, constricting feel. Like with the Keeperless band reviewed previously, the Sport Iconic Silicone band was softer than the Apple Ocean Band. The Keeperless band flexed a bit more with my wrist and seemed to provide a bit more ventilation than the Sport Iconic Silicone band. However, the Sport Iconic band had a bit more retention and stability for more physical activities.
The watch strap provided an incredibly comfortable, lightweight, sport-friendly band perfect for my EDC needs. My only complaint was the black color seemed to display skin flakes at times. I was impressed by the $25 price point, the black, grey, and teal colors, and the fact that I could buy all three color selections for less than the cost of a single branded Apple Watch band. I have tested the straps over the past several weeks and have found the design to be quite comfortable and reliable. The build, appearance, durability, and feel embody the mission statement mentioned above. Despite its lower price, WITHit provides a lightweight, comfortable, high-quality product.
