One Battle After Another, Paul Thomas Anderson's drama-comedy film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, consistently earned the No. 1 spot in many publications' lists and round-ups, including Time Out Magazineand Rolling Stone. The movie, which also stars Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti, follows Bob Ferguson (DiCaprio), a washed-up former member and explosive device expert who used to be a part of the French 75. When he and his daughter, Willa (Infiniti), are being pursued by Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw (Penn), a corrupt military officer, Bob is forced back into his former combative lifestyle to protect Willa.
The film is loosely based on and inspired by the 1990 novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon. Similar to One Battle After Another, the book explores the aftermath of 1960s counterculture in the Ronald Reagan era, following aging hippie Zoyd Wheeler and his daughter Prairie in a fictional commune in Northern California. Instead of taking place in the 1980s as Vineland does, Anderson's film takes place in modern times.

Since its release on Sept. 26, 2025, One Battle After Anotherhas won multiple awards, including the Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards, which took place on Sunday in Los Angeles, as well other accolodes from the London Critics Circle Film Awards, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, USA's National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle Awards and other film critic boards across the nation. In addition, the movie has multiple Golden Globe nominations and was included in former President Barack Obama's annual list of favorite movies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film made approximately $22.4 million in North America and about $26.1 million internationally on opening weekend. The film cost around $130 million, not including marketing costs. While considered a box-office failure and the most expensive film of Anderon's career, it eventually became his highest-grossing film, making approximately $200 million worldwide by November 2025.
