The Texas A&M Aggies‘ 2025 season didn’t end the way they hoped after an 11-0 start. Losses at arch-rival Texas and versus No. 10 Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff left a sour taste in their mouth heading into 2026. But they’re not letting the disappointing finish impact their approach for an encore.
On Monday, former Colorado safety Tawfiq Byard announced he was transferring to Texas A&M. Byard, the younger brother of Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard, posted his decision on social media.

— UNO (@byard_tawfiq) January 5, 2026Byard led the Buffaloes with 85 combined tackles and ranked second in tackles for loss (8.0) in 2025. He joined Colorado in the transfer portal last season following a solid sophomore campaign at South Florida.
Byard has made an impressive climb in college football. The rising redshirt junior out of Hyattsville, MD was a 3-star recruit and the No. 134 safety in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Now, he’s set to hold down a key role for an SEC school that’s looking to make back-to-back CFP appearances.
The Aggies, like Byard out of high school, have a chip on their shoulder heading into 2026. Some folks believe their standing this year was merely a result of a favorable conference schedule. They host Missouri State in their season opener on Sept. 5.
