Lightweight, Inexpensive, Sporty Apple Watch Band
Despite the allure of the Apple Watch’s functions and features, many users often overlook the benefit of upgrading their strap/band. Each cycle allows the user to select their preferred watch version and a single band type. I recently purchased the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and decided to upgrade to the Black Milanese loop strap, even though I had historically used an Ocean Band. I liked the Milenese Loop’s strap, design, and color, but did not like the feel when exercising, sweating, or for daily activity. I was afraid I would ding, scratch, or otherwise damage the strap and felt the need to remove the watch to protect it.
Even though I love the OEM Apple Watch bands, their cost can be rather off-putting. Luckily, other companies like WITHit provide opportunities for quality bands without breaking the bank. The black-colored cardboard box proudly displayed the company name, a refreshing product mission “BUILT ON THE IDEA THAT STYLE, FUNCTION, QUALITY & VALUE ARE ALL THAT MATTERS,” and a fun white-turquoise colored slogan, “DESIGNED FOR YOU. BUILT FOR LIFE.” I opened the packaging, removed the product card, small WITHit sticker, and sport band.
The WITHit Keeperless Sport Silicone Apple Watch Ultra 3 Band arrived displayed on a white cardboard backboard with the company logo along the bottom edge. I removed the 0.6-ounce silicone strap from the cardboard backing and separated the two halves. I typically orient my Apple Watch Ultra 3 with the crown dial toward the top right and place the watch on my left wrist (right-hand dominant). The WITHit band components were divided into a shorter, stubbier, 0.3-ounce, 3 9/16-inch-long strap, and a longer, slimmer, 0.3-ounce, 5 3/8-inch long strap. Each strap had a connector segment that measured 1 3/8 inches wide and tapered to a 7/8-inch-wide by 1/8-inch-thick strap. The shorter strap had a widened silicone strap buckle (1 1/8 inches wide) and a metallic buckle tongue/prong (1/4 inch wide by 1/8 inch tall). Lastly, the longer strap had a “W” etched into the lower segment, and the shorter strap had the WITHit name etched into the backside of the metallic plate.
Each strap had several weight-reducing and comfort features. Each strap had a series of oval-shaped cutouts and bezels that improved airflow, reduced weight, and enhanced comfort/fit against the wrist. The shorter strap had five midline, oval-shaped cutouts (3/16-inches-wide by 1/8-inches tall) and ten smaller oval-shaped cutouts. The smaller, laterally spaced cutouts (1/8-inches-wide by 1/16-inches-tall) were oriented along the edges of the straps and between the larger cutouts. The longer strap had fourteen midline oval-shaped cutouts and twenty-eight smaller cutouts.
I inserted the smaller strap into the top section of the Apple Watch, and then the longer segment into the bottom section. The prongs on the watch’s attachment points will snap securely into the watch once aligned. I placed the watch upon my wrist, slid the metallic buckle tongue into the appropriate slot, and then inserted/looped the thinner band into the loop buckle. I was pleased with the 2.8-ounce total weight, the grey-on-black color, and the snug yet non-constricting fit. With the unseasonably warm weather over the last several days, my wife, kids, and I have enjoyed outings at the park, ridden bikes, and played some pickleball. I have completed my daily two-mile treadmill walk and played catch with my sons. I loved the lightweight design, premium silicone feel, and how the strap hugged my skin without feeling tight or constricting. The band was softer than the Apple Ocean Band and seemed to flex a bit better with my wrist during daily activities and exercise. However, I will likely still use my Ocean Band while scuba diving, as it was designed for that sport and features a dual locking mechanism.
The watch strap was an incredibly comfortable, lightweight, sport-friendly band for everyday needs. I loved that I could buy all three of the Keeperless bands for less than a single branded band. Or, I could buy a Sport Iconic Silicone band (review coming soon), a magnetic silicone band for ~$25, or one of their nylon straps for ~$25. It is incredible to think that you can buy 4-5 straps for the same price as a standard branded strap, without sacrificing quality, build, or appearance. I liked the fit and the design, and I was impressed by the contrast between the grey watch band and the titanium black watch. If you have an Apple Watch version other than the Ultra line, do not fret, as WITHit has versions for the various watch models. However, the colors may be slightly different (coral vs. orange, light grey vs. slate). Before you purchase the strap, make sure it is compatible with your watch by navigating to its easy-to-use sizing guide.
