Arizona State picked up its first addition in the transfer portal in Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley, likely the Sun Devils’ starter for 2026, on Saturday night.
He committed after the first day of what was expected to be a two-day visit, bringing high upside as a consensus four-star prospect with a 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Wide receiver Raiden Vines-Bright (Washington) and running back David Avit (Villanova) committing on Sunday gave ASU two skill players for Boley and the offense to work with.
ASU added a big-time target on Monday, as wide receiver Omarion Miller (Colorado) committed to join the program. Miller is the No. 9 player in the portal and No. 2 wide receiver, according to 247Sports.
Defensive back Caleb Chester (Texas) marked the first defensive addition, bringing length at 6-foot-1 with four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting (six snaps) in 2025.
Running back and All-Big 12 first team member Raleek Brown entered the transfer portal, ESPN’s Max Olson reported shortly after the portal officially opened.
Brown previously declared for the 2026 NFL Draft but is leaving his options open to play for a new college football program next season.
The redshirt junior spent the past two seasons at ASU after a transfer from USC. After injuries limited him in 2024, Brown broke out in 2025 with 1,141 rushing yards (6.1 per carry) and six total touchdowns. He ranked 19th in the country in rushing yards but did not play in the Sun Bowl against Duke.
Brown joins quarterback Sam Leavitt on the list of notable Sun Devil starters in the portal. Leavitt entered the portal with a “do not contact” tag, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Leavitt has been tied to Kentucky in what could be a 1-for-1 quarterback swap after Boley picked the Sun Devils.
The transfer portal has changed, not only in its activity due to NIL but also in its timing. The NCAA moved the transfer portal from December to January, and it is only open from Jan. 2-16 in a single window.
Dillingham’s program won eight games in the regular season after reaching the Big 12 title game in 2024. The Sun Devils went into their Territorial Cup matchup with Arizona with a remote chance to win the conference again, but a loss to the Wildcats quashed that possibility. A depleted ASU squad then fell in the Sun Bowl to Duke, 42-39.
The modern-day transfer portal brings on annual questions about what the roster will look like from one year to the next, and the biggest for ASU is what will happen at quarterback. How effectively Boley is able to answer that question remains to be seen.
