Valerie Bertinelli Reunites With ’70s Heartthrob Shaun Cassidy, and Fans Are Losing It

Valerie Bertinelli reunited with Shaun Cassidy nearly 50 years after they co-starred together on a memorable episode of The Hardy Boys TV series.

In a post shared to Instagram on Jan. 4, Bertinelli, 65, posed alongside Cassidy, 67, backstage during his The Road To Us tour stop in Palm Springs, CA. The ageless stars were both dressed in black as they posed with their arms around one another.

He has put together an amazing set list and within that weaves the most beautiful stories. It makes for a truly magical night,” she wrote.Bertinelli added, “It’s been about 50 years since Shaun and I worked together on The Hardy Boys and it was such a joy to see him again ?.”Cassidy commented on the post as well. “Loved being w you, Val, and grateful you came. Fans reacted to the photo of the two ‘70s idols, with many saying Cassidy was their first crush.

“My childhood crush! What a great reunion for the two of you!” one fan wrote.

“Two teen dreams in one pic! I love this!!!” another added.

“My teenage heart almost can’t handle this picture!” a third commenter wrote.

When another fan asked, “Ahhhh new boyfriend?,” Bertinelli replied, “No. He is happily married, and I am happily single.”

In the late 1970s, Cassidy starred alongside Parker Stevenson on the TV detective series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, playing Joe Hardy. Bertinelli appeared in the 1978 season finale episode, “Campus Terror, “ playing college student Wendy Chase, Joe Hardy's former flame, who calls him to investigate a series of campus kidnappings. The guest appearance came during the height of Bertinelli’s fame as a teen idol on the CBSsitcomOne Day at a Time.

Cassidy was a teen idol in his own right. During his three seasons on The Hardy Boys, his recording career took off. His chart-topping hits included "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "That's Rock 'n' Roll,” and he experienced fandom similar to that of his older half-brother, David Cassidy, of The Patridge Family fame. The younger Cassidy took a step back from the spotlight in his early 20s and worked behind the scenes for decades as a TV writer and producer.

"I have a weird career," Cassidy told People magazine in 2023. "I had a very explosive first act and then at 21, went into hiding.”

At the time, Cassidy admitted that he “never thought” he’d return to performing again.
