Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan discussed, during a phone call on Sunday, January 4, 2026, ongoing preparations for convening the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, to be co-chaired by President Abdel Fattah al- Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the first quarter of 2026.
The phone call came within the framework of continued communication and consultation between Cairo and Ankara on ways to advance bilateral relations and exchange views on regional issues of mutual interest.
The two ministers reviewed prospects for enhancing Egyptian-Turkish relations and building on the positive momentum witnessed in recent months.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of holding the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in supporting the bilateral partnership, particularly in the economic, trade and investment fields.
The two ministers also exchanged views on a number of regional issues, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip amid the dire humanitarian conditions.
Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of consolidating the ceasefire and moving forward with the second phase obligations of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Agreement.
He underscored the importance of initiating transitional arrangements, ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid and launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts.The call also addressed developments in Yemen, with both ministers stressing the importance of de-escalation, reducing tensions and prioritizing dialogue and consensus away from unilateral actions, in a way that contributes to security and stability for the Yemeni people.Regarding developments in the Horn of Africa, the two ministers affirmed their total rejection of Israeli recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” describing it as a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter that undermines regional and international peace and security.
At the end of the call, they agreed on consultations during the coming period to contribute to supporting regional stability and boosting bilateral relations.
