Some people kick off the new year with a vision board. Others try a new workout routine. Kaley Cuoco? She rang in 2026 with a major hair change — and it didn’t go unnoticed at the Critics Choice Awards.
On Sunday, January 4, the 40-year-old Big Bang Theory actress was photographed by Getty Images on the red carpet in Santa Monica, debuting what appears to be her darkest hair yet.
The rich, deep shade marked a noticeable shift from the lighter blonde Cuoco is best known for — and even from the more subtle brunette look she’s worn while filming MGM+’s Vanished alongside Sam Claflin. The appearance comes just weeks ahead of the show’s February 1 premiere.

Aside from the hair switch-up, the Flight Attendant actress leaned fully into an all-black moment on the red carpet. Cuoco wore an oversized black blazer styled open at the front with a black bralette underneath, paired with black trousers and a matching clutch. She was joined by her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, who coordinated in an all-black look of his own, wearing a double-breasted suit layered over a black turtleneck.

The couple were introduced by a mutual manager and got engaged in August 2024. Together, they share a daughter, Matilda, who turned two last March. They also both had reasons to be at the ceremony. Pelphrey, 43, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for HBO/HBO Max’s Task, while Cuoco was on hand as one of the evening’s presenters.
While speaking with E! on the Critics Choice red carpet, the Ozark actor shared how becoming a father has changed the way he approaches work. “Dad life has changed everything — my daughter owns my life,” he said, adding that choosing roles now comes down to being thoughtful about schedules for both himself and Cuoco. “Being a dad is my No. 1 priority.”

Pelphrey isn’t the only one who’s been open about how much parenthood has changed their day-to-day. Cuoco has spoken candidly over the past year about life with Matilda and how becoming a mom has reshaped her priorities in ways she didn’t expect.
View this post on InstagramWhile chatting with Good Housekeeping last month, she said turning 40 has made her “so much less judgmental and empathetic,” adding that her “heart got 10 times bigger” as she’s gotten older, something she said has genuinely helped her as a mom.
She’s also been refreshingly honest about tuning out the noise that comes with parenting in the public eye. In a November 2024 interview with E!, Cuoco pushed back on mom-shaming, saying that every parent is simply “doing the best they can” and that “every kid is so different.” What works for one family, she said, might look completely different for another — and that’s okay.
